EMC Documentum collaborates with SharePoint!

leave a comment »

Seeing that SharePoint has finally found its place in this competitive market, EMC Documentum, the leader of ECM solutions, is presenting a module to “compensate” well-known weaknesses of SharePoint.

EMC SourceOne for SharePoint improves search performance, reduces infrastructure costs, secures data retention according to regulatory constraints, etc.

It works with (and not override) inactive (archived) SharePoint content.

White paper sponsored by EMC: Dubois, Laura. Enabling  SharePoint operational efficiency and information governance with EMC SourceOne. IDC, May 2010. 10 p. (available online)

In this report, IDC indicates as well how SharePoint is rapidly adopted by companies.

According to a 2010 study, 72% of the 508 firms surveyed were already using SharePoint, mainly for colaboration purposes (content and records management, web portals are other preferred purposes).

According another study, 300 US organizations indicated that SharePoint plays a major role in extending and opening information access within the company.

Major challenges of SP are clearly scalability (databases volumes limitations), search performance, inconsistency in preservation, etc.
