20 millions of records in Medline

with one comment

PubMed, a service of the US National Library of Medicine, recently attained a major milestone when the 20 millionth citation was added to the database. This occurred on July 27, 2010.

PubMed provides free access to MEDLINE, NLM’s database of citations and abstracts in the fields of medicine, nursing dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care systems and preclinical sciences.

The service was first released in January 1996 as an experimental database under the Entrez retrieval system, with full access to MEDLINE.

In comparison, Scopus claims 40 millions of records (http://www.info.sciverse.com/scopus/scopus-in-detail/facts/ )

Web of Science announced 46 millions (incl. non-scientific data) in 2009 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_of_Science )
